A free initiative focused on the health and well-being of women of color starts this weekend.The organization, “Black Women 4 Healthy Living” is kicking off the Black Women’s Health Coalition that is all about health, community, wellness and well-being.The meetings are scheduled to take place at Corinthian Baptist Church in Des Moines.The Black Women’s Health Coalition is an extension of the group’s outreach since the beginning of the pandemic. The group has been helping connect Black women of all ages to health providers and shrinking the gap between the Black community and the health care system.For one of the organizers, this is personal. Angela Mickens Bolden said, “I am a Black woman. I took care of my mother and I was a patient advocate for her. Also being in health care as I am a nurse I see where there is a drop in communication and I see the devastation that happens with black women.”The Black Women’s Health Coalition meets on the third Saturday of the month at Corinthian at noon. You can sign up on their website. DMARC will also be there the mornings of the health coalition from 10 a.m. to noon with food donations.
