Facebook’s parent company which was recently named Meta has now taken a step further into the metaverse by opening the gates to its Horizon Worlds VR platform to everyone starting Thursday.

The platform had earlier been in testing since last year and was only limited to a bunch of users.
What really is Horizon Worlds?
Horizon Worlds is a metaverse of the most nascent sense, where users can make the most of the internet and participate in online experiences such as chatting with friends, however, using virtual reality via VR headsets that allow the entire experience to feel a lot more immersive.
Now, users over the age of 18 who own a VR headset with proper hardware in the US and Canada can create their own unique digital avatars and meet other friends, play games in a virtual world made uniquely by them in Horizon.
How does Horizon Worlds work?
The feature is available only for Oculus VR headset users. Horizon World’s app is available via Oculus’s ‘Experiences’ section. You can simply log into your Oculus or Facebook account to download the app to your device and experience.
Meta said in a statement, “We want Horizon Worlds to be a safe and respectful environment, so everyone must follow our Conduct in VR Policy. You have several safety options… which lets you take a break and then block, mute or report people.”

This announcement marks Meta (formerly Facebook’s) the next big shift in the metaverse space after its rebranding. Zuckerberg had said in October, “Our hope is that within the next decade, the metaverse will reach a billion people, host hundreds of billions of dollars of digital commerce, and support jobs for millions of creators and developers.”
